Windows will warn you. That is expected.

The installer is not code-signed, so Windows has no publisher certificate to check. Every warning below is the standard "unknown publisher" flow, not a virus detection. Here is exactly what you will see and what to click.

1. The browser download warning

Edge: the download bar says "OhSnap-Setup-x.y.z.exe was blocked because it could harm your device" or "isn't commonly downloaded". Hover the entry, click the … (three dots), choose Keep, then Show more and Keep anyway.

Chrome: the download shows a warning icon and "This file is dangerous" or "isn't commonly downloaded". Click the file, then Show more (or the small arrow), then Keep anyway.

Firefox: click the download arrow, right-click the file and choose Allow download.

2. SmartScreen when you run it

A blue box titled "Windows protected your PC" with the publisher "Unknown publisher". Click the small More info link, and a Run anyway button appears. Click it.

3. Microsoft Defender

Defender may scan the file for a few seconds before it opens. That is normal. If it ever quarantines it, open Windows Security → Protection history, pick the OhSnap entry and choose Allow on device.

4. Not sure the file is ours?

Compare its SHA-256 with the one shown above. In a terminal run:

certutil -hashfile "%USERPROFILE%\Downloads\OhSnap-Setup-x.y.z.exe" SHA256

The hashes must match exactly. If they do not, delete the file and download again.

Opening the admin panel

The guest screen never shows a menu, so nothing is on screen to click. With OhSnap! full-screen and focused, press:

Ctrl + Shift + A

The admin hub slides in from the right and the mouse pointer appears. Ctrl+Shift+\ and F12 do the same. Inside the hub: tabs along the top for Cameras, Backgrounds, Branding, Look, Inputs, Output, Gallery, Diagnostics and Help. The first launch opens Help by itself with a six-step quick start; Ctrl+Shift+H brings it back. Close (or Escape) hides it again and the booth carries on. Quit OhSnap asks once, then closes the app; Ctrl+Shift+Q does the same from the keyboard.

If the chord does nothing, click once on the booth screen so it has keyboard focus and press it again. The full list of chords is in the operator guide.

Installing

  1. Download the installer above and get it past the browser warning (see the box above).
  2. Run OhSnap-Setup-x.y.z.exe. Click More info, then Run anyway on the SmartScreen box.
  3. It installs for your user only, no admin prompt and no licence key. OhSnap! is licensed to Peak Technologies; there is nothing to activate.
  4. OhSnap! starts full-screen when the installer finishes. Press Ctrl+Shift+A for the admin hub; Quit OhSnap in its header closes the app.

Updating

Run the newer installer over the old one. No uninstall needed. Your settings, backgrounds, mappings and photos stay where they are. The app tells you in the admin hub when a newer version is here.

Uninstalling

Settings → Apps → OhSnap. Photos in Pictures\OhSnap are never deleted by the uninstaller.
